Keeping your vision as clear as possible on the road is extremely important. The need to stay alert has doubtlessly been preached to you time and time again. If there’s anything preventing you from getting a 100% clear view, you need to fix it as soon as possible.
Wing mirrors
Wing mirrors are easy enough to maintain. The problem is that they are one of the weakest parts of your car. A slight knock can send them breaking off of your vehicle. Vandals are also fairly fond of knocking these off when they’re feeling destructive.
The best way to keep them protected is to fold them in towards the car doors whenever the vehicle is parked and not in use. This will also keep them protected from dirt, though they’re more likely to accumulate dirt when your car is actually on the move. If your car is on the move, make sure they’re not still folded in towards the door!
You should always give them a quick inspection before getting on your way. The reason I give for this might be seen as an odd one. But sometimes spiders like to build webs on wing mirrors overnight. If you’re arachnophobic, you don’t want this distracting you when you’re on the road!
Windshield
Your windshield is the most important part of your car when it comes to vision. That’s probably stating the obvious, but there are several common issues that people don’t get fixed as urgently as they should.
You need to make sure your view is pristine. This means cleaning your windshield thoroughly and often. A lot of people go out on the road with dirty windshields. Sure, the dirt may be mild or not in the centre of the driver’s vision. But this is still affecting vision; every inch of your windshield is revealing information to you to which you need to pay attention.
There’s also the issue of cracks in your windshield. No matter how small, these need to be fixed immediately. A large crack will distort or block vision heavily; even a small one diverts attention away from the road. Annoying glass damage visible in your peripheral vision is a danger, even if it doesn’t feel like one. There are, of course, other safety concerns independent of vision here. Your windshield is what’s protecting you from the various debris outside. If it’s cracked or shipped, it’s at risk of breaking entirely. You must make sure you look into auto glass repair as soon as you can.
Protection from Mother Nature
In Britain, the weather is extremely fickle. It can go from pouring rain to blinding sunshine in a matter of minutes. Even outside of Britain, you’re probably familiar with this kind of weather change.
Make sure you’re prepared for all weather conditions. The buildup of rain against your windshield makes it impossible to see the road. Even when it’s not raining, make sure your windshield wipers are working perfectly! As for the sun, you need to make sure you have sunglasses in the car at all times. It’s worth keeping an extra pair that you keep in the glove compartment. When the sun shows its shiny face, you’ll be prepared!
