Tesla Motors said it delivered 11,507 Model S sedans in the three months through June, a 52% increase over Q2 last year and a new company record.

There may be small changes to this delivery count (usually well under 1%), as Tesla only counts a delivery if it is transferred to the end customer and all paperwork is correct.

Tesla reported 10,030 deliveries in the first quarter. The Palo Alto-based electric car maker expects to hit its target of selling a record 55,000 vehicles this year, but meet its ambitious sales goal, the company will have to see an uptick of growth in the second half of the year.

Tesla makes only one car, the Model S electric sedan, but CEO Elon Musk said last month he expects to deliver about 5,000 units of the forthcoming Model X crossover, which will start shipping at the end of the third quarter.

Tesla cautioned that record deliveries are not an indicator of overall financial results, which depend on a variety of factors, including the cost of sales, foreign exchange movements and mix of directly leased vehicles.
