First seen in concept form at the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association show, the production version of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package has been revealed. The new package is the first application of Magnetic Ride Control on a full-size Chevy pickup.
The new High Desert package is available on Silverado LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. In addition to the fancy suspension, the package includes revised exterior details and an all-new cargo system.
“The High Desert package blends the capability and utility of Silverado with the refinement and luxury of Suburban,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing, in a release. “It’s ideal for those customers who want both the security of a lockable cargo area, as well as the flexibility of a pickup truck bed.”
Exterior highlights of the High Desert package includes 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires for Chevrolet Silverado LT models, while Silverado LTZ and High Country models gain 22-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
The cargo system includes a bed-mounted lockable storage system with dual side storage bins covered by a three-piece tonneau cover. There is also a divider in the cargo system that separates smaller items when raised or opens up the entire storage unit when lowered. The keyfob locks and unlocks the tailgate for an added layer of security.
The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package offers Magnetic Ride Control, which adjusts the suspension for a smoother ride and more control in real-time over various surfaces. Sensors “read” the road every millisecond, and the truck can adjust damping in as little as five milliseconds thanks to the electronically controlled shock absorbers.
Silverado LTZ and High Country trims are available with the automaker’s 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 rated at 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The available engine is backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Look for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package to arrive on dealer lots this fall.
